Last Thursday night was the start of a whole host of unique and exclusive events at Water Lane Bishops Stortford.
We welcomed Ciaran McNicholas and Keivan Namati from Greenwood Distillers to present the ‘Theodore Gin Masterclass’ - a full sensory experience, to an intimate crowd of intrepid gin lovers.
Theodore is an elegant and aromatic gin. “Scottish by birth and pictish by nature” meaning it has been powered by an antient lost tribe - the Picts - mysterious worriers famed for their courage and craft. Not much is known about these painted folk, but one thing’s for sure, their beauty and wild sense of highland adventure lives on through the gin’s distinctive design and formula.
The making of Theodore Pictish Gin also represents a journey of curiosity.
It uses a medley of 16 botanicals including pine needles, Damask rose, citric pomelo and smoky bourbon vetiver, and with the help of master perfume designer Barnabé Fillion, the spirit makers have meticulously crafted a super-premium gin to empower each of the rare and exotic ingredients.
Both Ciaran and brand ambassador Keivan delivered a truly engaging masterclass, taking us through the pyramid of fragrant notes as well as its flavours. Keivan’s own journey throughout his career working with some of London’s finest hotel bars and restaurant groups, as well as enrolling in the Study of Perfumery Art, meant he could share with us and our audience a wisdom of what different crafts and academic disciplines have in common with the world of flavour. You can imagine it’s been a massive hit behind the bar here at Water Lane, in our very own cocktail lab!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Masterclass. We hope you really enjoyed it, having learnt more about the fascinating art of perfumery and the harmony this brings to your gin…but also gaining a little pictish vitality of your own!
